Farming

Farming is so important to me... and everything that it includes. The highs and lows and the blessings and trials all together make my life so meaningful! I can't wait to share with you the stories of my daily farming life! I look forward to sharing with you the pictures of my flowers, my garden, my vegetable stand at the Farmer's Market, my cattle, oh...and on and on I go. The list of things I love about my life on a beautiful organic farm in Middle Tennessee is endless. I could also share with you the hard things, the blisters, the work, the sleepless nights, and day's when things just don't go right and I probably will, but not now. But those things, they make up who I am and what my life is as much as the roses and the green pastures.
Today was a special day. (Although everyday is, today I remembered to remember that it was a special day because of a particular blessing. ;)  We raise cattle, among other things, and every year our farm grows little by little. All the different areas and aspects. But this week my father and grandfather went to the cattle auction and bought six more cows from our neighbor and then yesterday our other farming friend called and said that he too, had a bred cow to sell to us! We are so blessed. This brings our herd head count up to 18 and when they calve 24! That night I made everyone mugs of hot chocolate with whipped cream and we went out in the frosty cold to see the new cows! I thought to myself 'I want to make this moment count. I want to remember it for years to come.'
Today I was herding the Hereford cows into a new pasture with my dad today and I was just so excited and blessed to see our herd growing! To see our farm growing! To feel our future growing! I get that feeling so often when I am out on my land. It always feels special. We all have things in our lives that make us feel this way. Things that give us fresh hope for the days to come. I hope you experience that today! Fresh hope! Isn't that one of the most joyful things about Christmas time...the hope?
Here are some pictures from my December day.
This is my amazing little brother! Seth James!

He is our constant joy and little cowboy!

He and his Daddy!
He says today to our neighbor when he stops by the pasture
'I'm going to be a farmer. I'm going to be just like my Daddy.'
awww....

Isn't she pretty! She just has that pregnant women glow, doesn't  she? ;D

Seth and I.
I had to go home and get a warm coat and cowboy hat  before I started herding cows, though.
It got very blistery out there!

Some of the girls!

Meet Big Mamma.
She is a full 500 lb.s bigger than the other girls.
(in a good way..)

*laughs*

I love my Rancher Dad!
Now, we don't want to forget our other cows. They're still special to us and I don't want anyone's feelings to get hurt. So, these aren't all of 'em in honor of the ol' gals......and boys.....
